Thankful Thursday - Thank you for the thank you

Today I am joining in with Rebecca Jo for her Thankful Thursday!

Who does not need a little gratitude in their life?!?! Right!?

Today I am thankful for Thank You's!!!

I love getting mail and packages...who doesn't, right? After the holidays I always feel a little UGH. I think it is the combination of being drained and having had so much with my family all together and then having to get right back into the swing of "real life" and work. Not sure what exactly it is but I have to say that Thank You's pick me right up!

As little kids, my parents made us write thank you notes to everyone after receiving birthday gifts and Christmas gifts! We continued this our whole lives and now that my siblings have kids they have stressed the same thing to them.  I really did not enjoy it then but now I get it! Every day I open my mail and get a thank you from someone, it makes me feel appreciated and, more than anything, reminds me of how much fun the holidays were and I am again smiling! My little sister reminded me the other day that we used to get thank you notes from our Great Aunts all the time ... they would send us thank you's for the thank you's!!! HA! Thanks for all the thank you's Aunt Laura and Aunt Martha!!

How sweet are these?!?!?!

Of course there are others from siblings, aunts and parents but those are more personal so I am not posting those but I had to share these!! I will keep them forever!!

Etiquette is something that is falling by the way side these days and I hope these things are never thrown to the side by my family.

Another thing I have noticed lately, is the amount of cussing by children (in public) is frightening!!! We also were never allowed to cuss or we would have been KILLED! But... this is a post for another day! HA!

So, thank you for the thank you's!!!!! I love you all very, very much!!!!

Do you still write thank you notes? Do you love to receive them or not care either way? What are you thankful for today?

  1. Thankful for the peace that comes from a lot of hard work and slow practice. Thankful to be willing and able to feel pain without holding on to things or people I should not. Growth.

Thank you for responding to my post Ann. Its good to know I have “sisters” out there that understand and can share their wisdom.

    1. I am here to listen...I think that is all any one of us needs, right? People to share the burdens with and share the joys with. Hang in and you will get through this!! Hugs Linda!

  2. Thankful for thank-yous - love it! Such thoughtful nieces and nephews you have.
My mom ingrained us the importance of writing thank-you notes when we were kids. I think it's rare to receive them nowadays unless for formal things like weddings and showers.

    1. Wow! Really? I guess I am really happy that my siblings stressed it to their kids then. I love getting them! I actually did not get one from the last shower I attended...I was shocked!

  3. I admit that I don't write thank-you's for Christmas gifts, but I think it's so sweet that it's a tradition in your family! Never a bad idea to send a thank you! My parents always made us send thank you's to aunts, uncles, etc. for things when we were kids, and I agree, back then I thought it was a chore but now I understand the importance. I've heard there's a growing trend that people now feel sending thank you's - for weddings, showers, etc. - is a waste of money, because people don't care anymore and thank you cards are just thrown out. I couldn't disagree more - I still appreciate receiving a thank you (and I notice when I DON'T receive one!!) I think your Christmas thank-you's are just the thing to help with post-holiday blahs. :)

    1. Yes Jill-I was actually on the receiving side of that new trend. I attended a baby shower and never got a thank you...I felt slighted. I think it is the least someone can do probably only because of the way I was raised.

  4. I think that's such a lost art! It is so lovely to get a note in the mail that is full of gratitude for you!!! I need to make a 2019 goal to do this more myself this year instead of emails!

  5. Oh, yes, I love a hand written thank you note and I think they are fast becoming a thing of the past. To me it is something kids need to be taught to do. Interesting post and thanks for stopping by my post today. Blessings!

  6. Aw, those are sweet! I started writing thanks you's with my boys when they were little but we actually stopped when family and close friends told us it wasn't necessary. Every now and then though I do love to send out cards "just because!" It's always nice to get mail that isn't bills.

  7. Thank yous are wonderful. It’s something I’ve gotten rather lax about, I hate to say. I so hate to hear anyone cussing, but especially children and the elderly.

  9. Those notes are precious, indeed! Yes, I try to always write a thank you note and I appreciate receiving them. Unfortunately, we don't get very many anymore. I even had to ask our 29 year old granddaughter if her card and money arrived for Christmas... this was the first week of January that I finally sent her a text to see if she got it... afraid it didn't arrive, etc. Yes she got it and thank you grandma. Sad. Her 22 year old brother at least sent us a text thank you. Sigh again.

    1. This happened to me recently...I attended a baby shower for a very close friend and never got a thank you! I actually worried that she did not know the gift was from me because I did not ever see her open it!! Very sad! You hit the nail on the head....they are precious! Hugs to you Terri!!
