Here is my sister Susie posing with Maddy...still waiting...
And the other kids in the back of the truck ...
The kids loved the parade...we especially enjoyed the local boy scout troup carrying the large American flag...
After the parade...everyone files over to the local cemetery and the local band plays taps and the veterans salute the fallen. It is a very emotional presentation that reminds everyone what Memorial Day is really about.
After the parade and presentation...it was back into the lake for another day of fun!
We took the kids tubing and then everyone had a relaxing day playing in the sunshine and lake waters!
I hope all of you enjoyed your holiday weekend!!
How did you celebrate? Do you travel for Memorial Day weekend? Do you know any service persons? If so, please thank them for me!
Hugs to you all!
We didn't do anything other than put the U.S. flag out. We stayed home. We didn't BBQ. We just stayed away from all the folks celebrating. There were lots of BBQs in our neighborhood though.
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous day. ♥
All you need for the holiday is the flag - sounds pretty perfect to me! Have a great day also Sandee!
DeleteWhat fun!! I love local parades.
ReplyDeleteIt was fantastic and the service after was amazing and so emotional!
DeleteWe had our annual Memorial Day gathering on Sunday. We spent parts of Monday reflecting on those who gave their lives for the freedoms we have today.
ReplyDeleteSounds like an absolutely perfect Memorial Day holiday!
DeleteI wound up at the local parade quite by accident. I wanted to get bagels for breakfast, and the parade went right past the bagel store. Brought back memories of when my kids used to march in the parade.
ReplyDeleteIsn't that just perfect?!?! I love when things like that happen!
DeleteEvery time I see a military cemetery with the flags??/ It just is something moving.
ReplyDeleteSame Rebecca Jo!
DeleteI watched several shows about Arlington while I was cooking. It was a meaningful and moving day. Praying for fewer and fewer wars.
ReplyDeleteI am completely with Tabor! Very moving day...
DeleteIt's been a long time since I've been to a town parade. I miss that! Sounds like it was a great day.
ReplyDeleteThe small town parade was awesome! So much to be thankful for!!!
DeleteA special day indeed.
ReplyDeleteWe attended a fantastic small town Memorial Day Service. It really made me think about how so many gave us so much by giving all of themselves.
I think it is the cemetery and service part that hit home for me - very emotional to think someone lost their life to keep us safe!
DeleteI watched the parade that goes by my house and that was about it for the day
ReplyDeleteThat is perfect! I wish it came right past our house - I was jealous of all those porch sitters!! HA HA! Have a great weekend Ann!
DeleteWe did not travel. I posted about our weekend. I LOVED the Memorial Day parades when I was in school, which ended in the cemetery where the two first trumpets (I was one) disappeared into the woods and played echo taps. Still gives me goosebumps!
ReplyDeleteThat is awesome that you played the trumpet!! Go you! Our remembrance event also played taps and the kids loved it. Their favorite was when the me shoot their guns and give the kids the empty bullets.
DeleteIt looks like you had a great Memorial Day! We didn't do anything. I had to work the whole 3-day weekend so Tim decided to work, too.
ReplyDeleteLOL - oh no! Then you better get a day or two next week to just chill and eat a burger!!! Hoping you get a break soon!
DeleteIs the water cold? Seems like it just had snow a little bit ago!
ReplyDeleteIt surprisingly was not bad! It was 90 degrees out so the water felt great!!
