You can read about Part 1 Here...
This weekend two of my favorite friends and myself attended the Joy of Cookies - Cookie Tour of Lawrenceville, PA. This is a free and family friendly event. The self guided tour allows you and your friends and family to stroll through the neighborhood, checking out each shop and sampling cookies at your own pace.
Here is this years map. As you can see there will be around 45 cookies when you are done! Most stores really go all out - with the exception of one or two. They are all sooo welcoming and it is such a great of shopping and supporting a local community in Pittsburgh!
Every shop that is participating puts a gingerbread man in the window and bakes cookies (they leave the plate of cookies out in the store and a copy of the recipe). Some shops only have one kind and others have a few different to choose from...Just grab a map and go! At the end, you vote for your favorite!
TIP!!!!! - Take note: I have a great tip for you...the first year we did this we ate the cookies as we walked along...we only made it through about half the tour and we were sooooo sick from too may cookies! This year; we all took a tin along and ate a few but mostly just added the cookies to our tin. At the end we had a beautiful cookie tray to share with others or eat slowly over a few weeks...LOL!!!!
Onto the rest of the stores shall we?!?!?
This cookie is from the Merchant Oyster Company...
This is their selection...oysters...and lots of different kinds of them...they open it right in front of you and you apparently suck it right down! UGH! LOL! The owner actually showed us how to eat on when we were there,,,interesting but not my thing...HA!
Gerbe Glass made these adorable trees!!!! They have the sweetest bulldog in their store...you should go just to visit him!!! You can see the Gingerbread men that the stores have in their windows behind the cookie.
Then onto Bierport...if you are looking for different beers, this is your store!
This is Arsenol 201...luxury apartments in Lawrenceville..it would be a really cool place to live by the way! These guys are the ones we voted for! They had their cookies, hot cocoa, coffee, christmas music and this guy dressed as an elf!!!! What spirit!!! We had to vote for them!!!
Here is their cookie!!! Delish!!!!
Next up Gardenalia..it is hard to see but they did a mini pretzel with a melted Rolo and an M&M on top. Little but delicious!!! This is a landscape design store.
Here is a better example of the Gingerbread Man you will see in the window if the store is participating in the Cookie Tour. This cookie is from Cinderlands Beer Company - a craft beer store.
This was the Chocolate Moonshine Co...such yummy chocolate and fudge - we bought a lot in this store - LOL!!! They had chocolate covered oreos!! YUMMY!
T's Upolstery-This is one of the stores I wish had just not participated. This store employee (could have been the owner) was not polite or welcoming AT ALL!!!! The owner made a 7 layer cookie bar and cut it into 1CM x 1CM pieces...it was actually kind of gross how pathetic the "cookie" was...ICK! Can you see how tiny...just don't participate at all next year...please!!!!!
This was a delicious recipe and cookie (they also individually wrapped each one) for the greatest chocolate chip cookie ever from the Brambler Boutique
Anther individually wrapped and delicious cookie stop was Waxing The City! Below is their selection.
Next stop was Asian Influences,,,they got cookies but cut them into fourths...I did not eat this cookie...maybe it was just me but to me this is a reflection of the business that value me enough to give me 1/4 of a cookie...LOL!
The next store was Bella Christie...it was a bakery and they had the cutest stuff!!! They had tree sugar cookies that melted in your mouth!!!
How cute are these cake pops they sell?!?!?!?
And these!!!!!????!!!!!
Right after the bakery was Franklin and Mercer Co.- a fine clothes store. They had Cheryl's Cookies and they were packaged just for the store!!!! WOWSA!!!
Next was Paul Michael Design jewelry store. We were commenting on how awesome their cookies were and how they chose to include their advertising. He stated that he believes his cookies show his appreciation of customers taking time to walk into his store and that the cookies are reflection of him....if he had crappy cookies then what could be said about his other products!!! Perfect, right?!?! He needs to go talk to some of the other store owners! HA HA! Here they are....beautiful, right?!?!
And last, but definitely not least, Enginehouse No.25 - this place was so welcoming and cozy. You can rent it for weddings and gatherings. I don't drink but if I did; this is where I would do it!!! Yummy and glittery decorated gingerbread!!!
This years tour was awesome!!! Again, more than anything, I caution you to take a tin to collect your cookies rather than eat them along the way or you will be stuffed and sick after the more than 45 stores...HA!
Lawrenceville is such a great neighborhood and we really enjoy getting to know and chat with all the businesses owners on this tour every year!!! There are so many awesome stores with things that you cannot find elsewhere and, again, you are supporting your local businesses!!!!Happy holidays and happy shopping!
Anyone else ever go on a cookie tour? How about anything in your cities that is comparable? Are you done with your Christmas shopping?!?!
LOL I love how you judge the store by their cookies! I'm sure it's true too!
ReplyDeleteOh yes, no doubt! You could tell who was happy to see us and who was rolling their eyes because we only wanted cookies! The gracious stores would start up conversations and we would always end up buying something!!! The others were so uncomfortable...we would grab our cookie and duck out! LOL
DeleteThis is such a fun (and yummy) idea! Those cookies look SO good!
ReplyDeleteIt really is such a super fun and family friendly event!! Plus, you explore new stores and support local businesses!
DeleteSounds delicious!!! I still have a couple more kinds I want to make. But here I sit, visiting my favorite blogs. LOL
ReplyDeleteLOL Becki! If it were not for my family doing ours all together; I am sure I would procrastinate also! HA!
DeleteAgain, this is so awesome. I can't believe what I am seeing. I've never been to anything like that. I do order Cheryl's for gifts all the time!
