Pills and Potions

Good morning friends!!!!

I would like to have a somewhat serious discussion today.

As I was getting ready think morning; sipping my coffee and eating my bagel; I reached over and grabbed my morning vitamins. As I did, I thought, WOW!

It never really kicked in until this morning how many pills I take each day. And most are voluntary!! LOL!

I had ten in my hand!!! WHAT!?!? I pride myself on being somewhat healthy and taking care of myself but how did I ever get to ten pills every morning. I also add a powder supplement to my coffee everyday!

I am going to share them with you and I would love to get your feedback. I have heard so many different things like...

"You get all the nutrition you need from food" or
"You don't need to take extra anything"

and on the other hand you hear...

"This pill is so good for this" or
"This pill will prevent this"...

I guess I am just at a point where I am now wondering if I am the only person that goes out and buys whatever they say will prevent or help this or that until I now end up taking ten pills a day (nine different things)!

Here is what I take daily in the morning...

One:
Bayer Low Dose Aspirin (okay so this is a given...I work there and it prevents a heart attack, right?)

Two:
Citrical(2 pills) (another Bayer product...I have arthritis and I am over 50 so I need extra calcium, right?)

Three:
Tumeric Curcumin Complex (my knees hurt daily from the arthritis and bone on bone and I heard this can help alleviate the pain)

Four:
Krill Oil (this is my omega 3...again healthy heart!!)

Five:
One a Day (another Bayer product...the daily over 50 for women)

Six:
B12 (I was tested and my B12 was very low; I think this is common for psoriatic arthritis...I just feel tired all day!)

Seven:
Biotin (my nails or very brittle and this is supposed to help hair and nails)

Eight:
Zyrtec (24 hour allergy pill...I am highly allergic to cats and I own four) LOL!!!

Nine:
Prozac (remember the post about hot flashes...this one I am sure really works!!! NO MORE HOT FLASHES!!!!)

Ten:
Collagen powder (I put this in my coffee everyday...it is supposed to help with the knee pain and I truly think it has) On a funny note: my nieces and nephews call it my "cow powder"....LOL! It is made from ground up cow bones!

So, that's my list! Maybe too much information but I am just wondering if I am the only one that hears something is good for you and jumps on the bandwagon!??!?!

I will be very interested in your feedback! HA!

I hope everyone has a healthy and happy day!!! HUGS TO YOU ALL!

Do you take any voluntary supplements? How many a day? Does this many seem crazy to you?

  1. Okay, I LOL'd at the Zyrtec!
I also take several supplements. Are they doing anything? Hope so!
    menopause multi-vitamin
    (2) Calcium-Magnesium-Zinc
    (2) Omega-3
Vitamin D - usually just in winter months
    (2) Glucosamine + MSM

AND, I also do the "cow powder" twice a day :). That makes 10 supplements for me too, sheesh!
I don't mess with Zyrtec since I get regular allergy shots. I do think the Menopause vitamins, vitamin D, and collagen - which I will from now on call "cow powder"! - are doing some good.
    Happy popping!

    1. I guess I should consider upping my dose of cow powder! I only do one scoop in the morning! Never thought about adding another at night! I am so happy that I am not alone in this pill madness - but anything to stay healthy and pain free!!!! Have a fantastic week Abby!! Hugs

  2. I know someone who takes that many or more pills a day. As for myself I only take Zyrtec and a one a day vitamin for old ladies...because I am old. :) I do try foods that I hear will help this or that...sometimes I feel they work sometimes not. I say whatever works to keep you as pain free and healthy as possible go for it! My mother took many vitamins and supplements for most of her adult life and lived to be well into her 90;s. Hugs

  3. Good for you. You're not the only one that takes supplements. As long as they are good supplements.

    Have a fabulous day. ♥

  4. Thank you SO much for posting this! Dunno why, but I'm so bad about taking pills. I 'have' to take a daily thyroid and one weekly for the osteoarthritis. But, do you think I remember to take the prescribed B-12 or calcium? I need to be shamed, big time. You're the second person to mention Biotin in the last week. Good to know!

    1. The biotin really works! This is the first time i my life I have been able to grow my nails out! I make myself remember by putting my pill case on my kuerig machine - LOL! I go NOWHERE without coffee first! HA! Have a fantastic day!

  5. I used to take a lot of vitamins myself... & then it ended up back firing. I got a rare case of neuropathy from toxicity of overdosing. Be careful with taking too much vitamin B.... I am still low on it & doctors always tell me to take more & I cant even take a 100% vitamin without getting the tingles now.
& didnt they just come out & say that aspirin does NOT help with heart attacks? Medical info changes so much but I just heard something on the news about that.
I just cant with collagen... being a vegetarian - nope... I did find a plant based collagen, which I'm not sure it has the same effect, but who knows.
At least you're on natural supplements more than prescriptions from big pharma

    1. That is exactly right Rebecca Jo! The medical news changes monthly - it is impossible to keep up with what is good for you and not! LOL! I think I have vegetarian collagen on Amazon when I ordered mine - I swear it is working...but it could be the placebo affect!!! Have a fantastic day!

  6. I take one 2 pills for my thryoid.
Then it is supplement nirvana. I have celiac and my body doesn't get to absorb all the nutrients from food.
Ready? Magnesium, DHEA, Pregnelone, Omega 3, D3, Kelp (thyroid booster it's just iodine) B12, and 2 things that I want to take, Collagen in my coffee and Elysium. (google it)But to me considering my age that is damn good. I only take a Rx for 1 thing.

    1. That sounds just like me Margaret! LOL! You are all making me feel like I am not alone in this supplement "nirvana" as you called it!!! HA! I wish the B12 would kick in...I don;t think it is being absorbed since I am still exhausted ALL DAY! Have a fantastic day Margaret!

  7. I have been known to try something out because I read it was a wonder pill.
Right now I take a multi vitamin for women over 50, calcium, D3 (all three of these were suggested by the nurse practitioner at my doctors office) I also take celebrex for my arthritus and another prescription for my restless leg syndrome

    1. I can not imagine suffering from restless leg all the time. I had it as a side effect from another drug I was on a long time ago and it made me so crazy (it was all I could think about)...crazier than a yeast infection(TMI again I am sure)! LOL! I am so happy I am not the only one that tries these things! Have a fantastic day Ann! Hugs

  8. 1. Good, although the thinking now is that you need 200mg plus a day to have any real effect. I tried it but I found I bled and bruised too easily. Back to 100mg.

    2. Maybe good.

    4. The quantity of krill oil needed to be taken to have any real effect his huge. I'd drop that one.

    Not sure about he others.

    1. I appreciate your experience with those Andrew! Thanks for sharing that! Sorry to hear about the bruising thing...I have noticed the same but they tell me it is due to my Stelara shot. Trudging right along...ha! Have a fantastic day!

  9. As long as you feel okay and your doctor is in agreement, I say good for you. I take a multi vitamin (in gummy form because I can't stand the smell of regular vitamins), Zyrtec, D3, B Complex, and 3-4 Tums (for the calcium). My husband is trying to convince me to take garlic/fish oil.

    1. LOL Robin! The fish oil is not bad as long as you spend the extra money on the "no burp" kind. It is usually a few dollars more but totally worth it the first time you burp fish at 9AM - ick!!!! I am so happy that I am not the only one doing this! You all make me feel so NOT alone! Have a great day!

  10. I take five prescriptions in the morning and in addition, a multi vitamin, calcium, Osteo BioFlex, Flaxseed Oil, and sometimes Tylenol. I might have you beat!

  11. I only take one prescription each day, but four supplements. Not as bad as some people, better than others.

    1. Yes, I am not sure if there is harm in taking more than you need except to your wallet! HA! Awesome that you are that healthy Kathy!!

  12. I take a lot of pills also. I read recently that you shouldn't take a low dose aspirin unless you've had a heart attack or your doctor has told you too. I always take a calcium pill with D because of the steroid use I have with my COPD. I definitely take Tumeric. I've been taking it for at least 20 years because it keeps lung infections away for me. I take a multi vitamin, Omega 3 and B12. 7,8 & 9 I do not take. I drink Bone Broth for collagen to help my osteoarthritis. I do however kind of do a Monday, Wednesday & Friday with some and Sunday, Tuesday & Friday with others because it can be so costly and I'm not sure I need them daily. I do eat a healthy diet.

    1. That is exactly my thoughts too Debby! I was thinking I may be wasting money by taking all of these when I could and SHOULD just eat healthier...UGH! It is a struggle!

  13. I only take a multivitamin and a vitamin D. As I was reading through your list, at every one I thought - oh, I should take that. lol

    1. LOL! No you should not save that money...don;t use me for your example Penny! Ask my sister, She tells her kids all the time "Aunt Annie does not make the best decisions!" LOL!
