The Unthinkable in My City

Hi everyone! I hope you are all having a great week so far.

This is a tough post for me to write. I was going to write about this yesterday and just could not bring myself to do it - today it is not much easier.

My beautiful city had an incident over the weekend that I think left a lasting imprint on all of us that live here.

You hear about terror attacks and hate crimes all over the world but I think you never really process them until they hit this close to home!

As I am sure you have all heard by now; a man opened fire into The Tree of Life Synagogue in Squirrel Hill, PA. Squirrel Hill is a suburb of Pittsburgh just like the area in which I live. It is about 30 minutes from my house.  It is so hard to imagine the terror those poor individuals felt as they were practicing their faith and the unthinkable happens!! So many people died and the others were terrorized.

The President said the solution is armed guards in churches and synagogues??? Really??? OMG!

I do not want to get into a political debate but that is simply STUPID!!!  I think the solution is getting these people that are mentally unstable the help they need or getting them committed so they cannot hurt themselves or anyone else! (This man had been posting crazy comments and statements for months on a "free speech" website - it is not like this is a surprise - he has been posting for months that someone should attack Jewish people - he even went so far to post a list of synagogues in Pittsburgh-that alone should be enough to get him committed for evaluation).  It is unthinkable to me that we have a president that feels like we should just all arm ourselves for protection rather than stopping the unthinkable from happening in the first place. FIX THE ISSUE!!! I cannot imagine walking around town and stores and having armed guards everywhere....does this not sound crazy to anyone else?!?!?

Holy crap - I am scared to think what kind of world we are creating for my nieces and nephews!!!

Okay - enough of that - but please pray for my city and the families and friends of the deceased and terrorized...it can happen ANYWHERE ANYTIME!!

If you are looking to help in any way; THIS ARTICLE from the Pittsburgh Post Gazette will link you to many options available where you can donate money to help the families and organizations affected.

On to floor progress...home is where I fell safe right now so I am focused on finished my floors.  Here is the progress from last night. I only have the last row left and then I can do the trim!! YIPPEE!!

I hope you all have a great Tuesday!

Love and hugs to you all - thank you for being my friends - I truly appreciate you all!!

  2. Ann, I just want to reach through the computer monitor and hug you. What happened in Squirrel Hill is pure evil, it hurts us all, but it hurts so much more when it happens close to home. last night my synagogue hosted a vigil/rally in memory of the victims and in support of your community. Know that you are not alone.

    1. Thank you for the support! There are so many more wonderful people in this world but it only takes one bad one to harm sooo many! Hugs

  3. Thank you for posting this, I so agree. How is it some coward goes and shoots up a place of worship and then all this evidence about how obviously whacked he was shows up after the fact?
    Your room looks great!

  4. I am so very sorry about the pain your city is going through. How I wish things were different. Lord, what an idiotic thing for that man to say what he said.

  5. I thought of you when I heard the news on the weekend, and wondered if it was close to you. So sad. I am Canadian, and it astounds me when I hear Trump's solution to all gun violence is to arm the people who work at these places being attacked: teachers and principals, now security for churches and synagogues, seriously? It's baffling. Praying for all effected by this tragedy.

  7. Praying for your area. The world is truly a scary place anymore. It's funny because the hubs & I just had a conversation the other day about how we actually get nervous in our church - our place of worship - sometimes because its a big known mega-church & we always said we could see it coming under attack - which is the CRAZIEST thought to even have :(

    1. Exactly Rebecca Jo! It is sad that we even have to think about it! It is sadder to me to think the politicians think the solution is we all have guns all the time...that does not make me feel safe AT ALL! That is their answer because they will always secret service protection! No worries there! UGH!

  8. My heart aches for the people who were affected in this tragedy. There have been so many incidents like this in the places we go and so random, you can never guess where next. Sometimes at church, the thought runs across my mind that something like that could happen while we are worshipping or having an event. We do have armed police at our church, but I know probably not everyone agrees with this, and probably not every church can afford them. I don't see how we can get all these kinds of people help. They either blend into their environment until they do something, or people don't take what they say seriously. I see crazy people posting on Facebook and twitter often. And what about the ones who make threats, such as many celebrities have done? Horrible threats. Nobody seems to think they should be committed. It is indeed a crazy world and I'm sad for our kids and grandchildren.

  10. I think it is so sad as well that he posted all that stuff and NO ONE was alarmed? It is just so sad, I do not understand how our Nation has turned into what it has. I am praying for our Nation and for you, and your city.

  11. Just horrible and so close to home for you. I saw today they went to pay their respects. You'd think with his son in law and daughter being Jewish he'd be less than an ass.

    1. Yes, way to close to home for comfort Julie. Honestly, no one wanted him here either - that was the craziest part. I don't think he caused it but he certainly adds fuel to the fire, if someone is already on the edge on sanity, with his horrible unloving words and names that he calls everyone. I wish we could all just do like my Grandma used to say "If you can't say something nice; don't say anything at all!"
