Strawberry Wednesday Medley

Happy Hump Day ya'll!!!!! Every time I say this I think of that Geico commercial and start laughing inside!!!! "Happier than a camel on Wednesday!"

Terri has come up with another great Medley for us!!

If you want to join in on the fun go get the questions here, answer, post and link up on Terri's blog!

1.  Given all that information on this National Strawberry Day🍓, do you have a favorite recipe for strawberries?
I do not have a recipe at all. I wash my berries, slice them and sprinkle them with a little sugar if necessary...that is it! I love strawberries just as they are!!
2.  Some people think the smaller, northern varieties are sweeter than the larger berries that grow in the south and in California.  What are your thoughts on that?
I grow them in hanging pots on my patio and they are awesome. The smaller ones are definitely sweeter!
3.  There is a Strawberry Festival right here in Plant City, Florida (next town over from Lakeland) and it is a huge event that lasts 11 days with headliner acts each day.  Have you ever been to a Strawberry Festival? Sadly never :-(
4.  Strawberries are grown in every US state.  Have you ever grown them in your garden?
Absolutely! I get a hanging pot every year and get to enjoy approximately one berry a day all summer - ha!!!

5.  Strawberry is the only fruit that has seeds on the outside, and technically it is not a berry but rather a fruit, and would you be surprised to learn that strawberries belong to the rose family?  Do you have any strawberry trivia to share with us?
No but thank you for sharing yours.
6.  Tell us something random about your week!!
It's been a very long week. Things in my office are getting so sad with the looming shutdown and everyone is just kind of "existing". It is like a bunch of zombies waiting to get "the ax". We are offered 2 weeks severance for every year of service if we stick around to the end.  It is not a fun place to be anymore. It is like everyone is sitting around waiting for a hatchet...I may have to find something else sooner rather than later because it is a hard working environment right now. UGH and UGH!
On a happy note...I have my cats, my family and my friends and life itself is still an awesome blessing!! Only 14 days until my Florida trip and 44 days until my Aruba trip! WHOOP!
How has your week been? Have you ever faced losing your job when you knew if was coming but did not know when? Do you have any vacation plans for this year yet?

  1. I once did a project on strawberry farming in school and I had to interview the owner of a local strawberry farm. I didn't retain much of my knowledge on the subject, but I do remember her telling me that one cup of strawberries contains more vitamin C than an orange. There's a strawberry fun fact for you! :)

  3. I understand about the workplace...I was at AIG during the bailout in 2008. Try not to let the glum atmosphere get to you.

  5. THanks so much ofr the visit... and I wanted to tell you if you do have noticeable sun damage.. you know some splotchy skin.. please ask your dermatologist about it.. THis chemotherapy cream is great. I know lots of people using it and it doesnt hurt.. Believe me,,Im a baby...the thing is if you have what could turn into a cancer ..mine were sqyamous cancers which grow and can affect other parts of body.. unlying which at your tender age it prob will when youre older.. see Im almost 70.. the cream brings it to surface and over two weeks of applying it at bedtime it will leave some red spots that heal in a few weeks.. nothing drastic looking at least in all the folks Ive seen.. just s bit of redness that then sort of sloughs off in a bit of time... My husband has some on his forehead and he is getting ready to use my med next... Skin grafts are NOT fun!!! God bless you sweetie!!

  7. My son's company shut down their office in the city but offered him a job about 20 miles away from where he lives. A nasty traffic commute even though his hours can start early...he sometimes is forced to work late!

    1. Oh no - that stinks! We don;t have the relocation as an option due to the fact that there are no sites nearby and the company we bought is so large; they simply do not need us anymore. Have a great day!

  8. Hang in there and get the severance!
I have never grown strawberries in a pot. I may have to look into that since I eat so many of them.
What day is it Mike? :-)That stupid commercial always makes me laugh.

  9. Strawberries always remind me of my youth. My mother loved strawberry shortcake. It was a delight we enjoyed during the strawberry season. She would make the shortcake and then fix the strawberries with a bit of sugar. There was always whipped cream. Delicious.

    Have a fabulous day. ♥

  17. "I grow them in hanging pots..."

Wow! How easy is it to do this?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Very easy! They actually sell them here in PA at the Home Depot and Lowes that way. You don't even have to put them in the planter - they come that way! HA! Try it Sandi...they need lots of water and sun and that is it! Have a great day!

  18. Yummy strawberries. I've never grown them but my dad always did in his garden.
Sorry to hear that things are so rough at work. I imagine it would make it very stressful knowing the end is near

    1. That's exactly it...waiting for the hatchet - HA! But it is better than them coming in one day and saying goodbye without giving severance or anything so there is that to be thankful! I hope you have a great day Ann!
