I spent the weekend frustrated because I don't want my weight to define me!! I don't want to die next year and realize that my whole life I have been on a diet or tracking my weight!
I want a healthy relationship with food; I want to eat healthy, unprocessed foods to fuel my body; and most of all I want to eat to live and not live to eat!
So, I am nixing Motivational Monday and just planning to post as I normally do and along the way; while I lose the weight. I will keep you all posted!
I lost 2.3 this first week...but after talking with some friends this weekend; I wish I could focus more on having fun and not so much on the weight since it has been a focus my entire life! UGH!
So I am focusing on eating healthy; eating as many natural, unprocessed foods as possible and getting out and getting exercise as a natural part of enjoying life!
Does that make sense??
So...over the weekend I gave in! I swore I was not going to follow Marie Kondo and her life techniques but then I saw a few videos about how she folds clothes and it sparked my interest. Then....over the weekend....this happened!
In case you have not seen her folding technique - this is it in action on my own kitchen table - HA!!!
Lay the shirt out flat and smooth it out with your hands (if your shirt covers the entire kitchen table; you need a diet (just kidding!)....
Fold in the one side and the first sleeve as shown below and smooth it out...
Then fold in the second side and sleeve and smooth it out...
If it stands on it's side then you folded correctly...
And this is after...I can see every shirt!!! Super cool!!!
And this is my shorts drawer before...
And this is after...so easy to see everything!!!
I did not go through like Marie wants us to and throw away or donate anything. I have a lot of clothes and I want to hang on to all three pairs of my jean shorts and all three pairs of my khaki shorts. That being said; I do like her folding method so I guess I am half-on and half-off the bandwagon! HA HA!
Have a great day everyone!!!!
Anyone else try Marie Kondo's tips? Anyone else sick of dieting and talking about it? How was your weekend? Full of fun?!??!
I've never heard of Marie, but I like that method of folding shirts!
ReplyDeleteI've felt the same way about dieting for ages. I tried Weight Watchers with a friend years ago and I'm sorry, but while she lost weight, she was still controlled by it. Nearly all of her waking thoughts were centered on points...how many were in the food, how many could she earn for exercise, how many could she save for a big event on the weekend, etc. She even resorted to taking water pills before weigh-ins to get better numbers. Sheesh. I found it exhausting. I know me and if a "diet" is difficult, as in having to figure calories/points/whatever or avoiding all things that taste good...I'm not going to do it. I simply need to think about portions, healthier ways to make favorites, and exercise. A lifestyle is doable and sustainable. A diet is not. Adipex-P helped me too. It's a prescription weight loss pill. I lost 30 pounds in about 6 months on it without making any real modifications. At first it pretty much eliminated my appetite all together, but then as I got used to it, it just eliminated the cravings.
I looked into Adipex-P after you commented the other day. It is not recommended for me since I am in recovery. They strongly recommend not prescribing it for anyone with a history of alcohol or drug abuse so it's out. Major bummer - I would have loved to try it! There are a lot of things that are out of the mix because of my history but better safe than sorry. Thanks for the recommendation though!!! Have a great day Stacy!
DeleteOh, yes...definitely better to play it safe in that case! But even without it, I get what you mean about wanting a healthy relationship with food. I want to eat to live not live to eat and some diets just seem to force a person to think of nothing else!
DeleteThat's a brilliant way to fold your shirts. I'm going to give that a go. I can't even tell you what a mess I have. Way cool.
ReplyDeleteI don't diet, I just watch what I eat. I know when I'm about to do something I shouldn't and sometimes I do it anyway and other times I don't. It's a daily struggle.
Have a fabulous day and week. ♥
It is a daily struggle - that is a perfect way to sum it up! UGH! You will like how it turns out if you try the folding I think. It gave me more room and I can see everything!
DeleteI just noticed you linked up for Awww Mondays. Thank you for that. ♥
ReplyDeleteThank you for hosting Sandee!!!
DeleteI have not tried the folding but want to. You just gave me motivation to do this to my husbands t-shirt drawer.
ReplyDeleteAs for the food, boy I could talk to you about this forever but won't bore you with how i am trying to deal with it. Hang in there. You got this and you'll figure out what works best for you Ann.
Thanks Margaret! I am working on figuring out how not to focus and obsess!! HA! Try it - I promise you will like how it turns out - I have then organizing bug now!
DeleteI need to perfect that fold! It would make so much space!
ReplyDeleteIt gave me a lot more space and even better, I can see everything I have clean! So nice and such a nice change!!! Try it - you will like it I think!
DeleteI had my tshirts folded like that for awhile but I gave up on it - they kept falling over. I need to try again. It is nicer to see the tees without pulling them all out.
ReplyDelete& friend... I'm 10000% with you on the frustration of letting "diet" rule your life. It's so aggravating when its what you center your life around - what to eat, calories consumed.... it gets to be overwhelming.
I just did mine so give me time and I may give up on it too! I'm hoping it works without them all falling over when I remove one! HA! Overwhelming; yes, that is the word!!!! Have a great day Rebecca Jo!
DeleteNice drawers ;) When I first jumped on the Marie Kondo bandwagon, I folder my stuff like this. Only "some" of it has remained...
ReplyDeleteI like your focus - eat healthfully and don't obsess about calories!
Thanks Abby! So I guess it does not last long then, hugh? I am hoping I see the value in keeping them neat and tidy but from what I have heard from others - the tidiness only lasts a few weeks - HA! Have a great week!
DeleteI have always heard (and tend to agree) that diets never work. It has to be a life-style change. I also agree with you that you need to get out and enjoy and not fret over a diet. The folding and organizing looks great but I know I won't do it. Ha!
ReplyDeleteGood for you for holding firm and knowing you will not try it Terri! I said that and got so frustrated looking for my valentines t-shirt that I finally gave in! HA! So far so good - we will see how long it lasts! HA!
DeleteWell that certainly makes my dresser drawers look seriously sloppy...lol That's a pretty cool way to do it.
ReplyDeleteOh trust me...yours could not be sloppier than mine were - HA! I could not find a thing!!! I think this will make it much easier as long as I stick to it! It must be hard to maintain though because everyone that has tried it, according to the comments above, has quit along the line...I hope I can keep it up! Have a great night Ann!
DeleteI have always folded my clothes like that to fit in my suit case. I can fit a whole week of clothes in a 22 inch suitcase. But at home I hang everything. I do not like how tiny folding wrinkles them no matter how careful you are.
ReplyDeleteLisa
You sound a little like my friend. She irons her t-shirts! HA! I have no time for that...but you are right, they definitely wrinkle a little if folded no matter how carefully. Have a great day!
DeleteLove.
ReplyDeleteHope you try it - it works great as a space saver and you can easily see what's clean in the drawer. Have a great night!
Deleteha I do the opposite. I get rid of things left and right...I do not fold anything though.
ReplyDeleteI need to start that Kristin! I have to tackle my toiletries and makeup next! I have things from 10 years ago in that closet that cannot be good anymore and perfume that is older than that! It pains me to throw it away but I am sure it is expired!
DeleteWow, I thought I was pretty tidy until I saw those drawers! You did a great folding job. I hope you can keep it up.
ReplyDeleteYes, time will tell, right? I hope so because I even feel organized when I open my drawer!! Ha!!!! Thanks for coming by - have a great week!
DeleteWhat a great way to fold and store shirts and shorts...good job. The drawers look so neatly organized. I say...forget the word diet. Just eat healthy foods, get exercise and have fun. I finally began doing that after dieting off and on most of my adult life and it has worked for me. Great idea...eat to live not live to eat. Hugs
ReplyDeleteThanks for the supportive words Mags!!!! That is my future intention! I cannot take credit for the folding - it is Marie Kondo that created that folding method I think...it works great though!
DeleteThat's a great plan for eating healthy. Yes that makes sense. I need to get out and walk! I hope to start eating a more plant based diet to help loose my belly fat. I wish you success and keep us posted. She's the lady on Netflix, right? I need to watch her. Did she help to motivate you? I like what you did with your drawers!
ReplyDeleteI tried that and gained 50 pounds lol.
ReplyDeleteI watched Marie's Netflix show and it didn't do much for me. I then watched all the season's of Hoarders on Amazon Prime and I'm totally motivated haha
I recently reorganised all my drawers that way and so far I've stuck to it. It's definitely better to be able to see at a glance what is in the drawer. I'm with you though, I'm not following her scheme on throwing everything out or gathering everything in a category together. Would take a month of Sundays to sort my books out!
ReplyDeleteI had the Mari Kondo book and also the audio book which I listened to over and over again while in the car and then one day I said I would DO it! However, I started in the kitchen because I couldn't stand not having counter space and she said to clear everything off. Spices, oils, containers, trivets - all got put away and I had counter space to cut/prepare what little food I prepared!
ReplyDeleteI went on to clothing - my favorite is my undies drawer that now is tidy and presentable instead of smashed in and messy. Truly life changing, though I still have a lot more to do and new habits to learn.
