Thankful Thursday

Happy Thursday ya'll!!!

Today I am joining Rebecca Jo for her Thankful Thursday as I always do. It is so important for me to remember all that I have to be grateful for!

I am thankful that we are almost to Friday!!! YIPPEE and praise the Lord!! HA!

I am thankful that I was able to have another chill night last night. I worked, ate dinner and did a little more organization around the condo...whoopie!

Let me show you...

I bought a few of these online the other night! They were very reasonable compared to the container store...

And I did this with them!!! I love that I can now see all my lipsticks and lip glosses!!! The Buxom lip-glosses on the left side are too wide to fit in the slots but everything else fit perfectly!!!

I used another one for mascara's and larger brushes...

Here is what the shelf in my bathroom looks like now...so organized!!!! Yay!!!!

I had shelving space in one of my dressers and was not sure what to use it for. I bought two baskets that fit perfectly onto the shelves and I found a purpose for them last night. The top basket hold swimsuits and coverups and the bottom basket holds all my scarves (sorry the picture is a little dark)...

There is the one with scarves pulled out...I folded them so that I can see every one!!!!

I bought this awesome dresser last year and put it in my guest bedroom. Last night I decided to swap dressers so I put a plain five drawer white one in my guest bedroom and moved this one to my bedroom.

It is designed to hold jewelry which I love and it was a little weird having all my jewelry in the guest bedroom. So, after I swapped them out (the hardwood floors make moving furniture so easy now) I got to fill it up with my STUFF! Here is the dresser...

The small drawers on the right hold my bracelets, rings and miscellaneous jewelry...

The door on the left has two shelves...sweatpants are rolled up on the top shelf and the middle section pops out and has all of my "good" bracelets and there is the mirror on the back side of the door...

On the far left side of the piece is a hidden door...it has all of my good necklaces...

I feel even more organized now and I am so happy that I bought this piece of furniture last year! I like it so much better where i have it now and I can get so much more use out of it!

I don't know why but I have a thing for white furniture! I think every piece I have purchased has been white! HA! It feels so clean to me!

I am thankful that for years I have been gifted with hand me downs from my family. I still have my sisters TV stand, my parents old bed, my other sister's coffee table and dinner table and my brother's old microwave! I am so grateful for the things my family have given me - it has allowed me to be back on my feet without spending a ton of money. Slowly, but surely, I am purchasing new things but I want to hang on to their things as long as they function! It feels like they are here with me in my home everyday!

I hope everyone has a great Thursday!!!!

Anyone else cherish their hand me downs? What are your decor preferences? Do you have favorite pieces or stories when or why you purchased? Have you jumped on the organization bandwagon yet?

  3. As a single girl in her mid-30's, I so understand the appreciation for hand-me-downs!! I have lived in the house I rent for 10 years now. I started out with 2 roommates, but they both moved out within the first 5 years. (they found men and got married... I was not so lucky. LOL!) When they moved, they took some of their belongings with them that we all used, and if I didn't have family to pass on hand-me-downs, I'd have been lost. I couldn't have afforded to furnish and supply the house with necessities. Now, after 10 years, I have finally reached a place where I can invest in new stuff and replace some of the old hand-me-downs, but I still use a lot of them!! We are lucky girls to have that support!! :)

    1. You sound just like me!!! Yes!! For my first 10 years in recovery my entire apartment was things form family and then after I bought the condo I started being able to afford new things but it is hard to part with them because there is nothing wrong with them!! We are very lucky girls - let's never forget that! Hugs to you!

  4. Look at you so organized! I can honestly say my recent tidying is paying off, and I love the roominess we have now.
I love and appreciate hand-me-downs too. I'm at a time of life where I actually have hand-me-ups! I've got some useful stuff from my kids!

  9. Way to go on the organizing. I've been slowly getting things done around here and getting rid of a lot of stuff.
As for decorating, I've never considered myself very good at it and I don't really have a specific style. I'm rather eclectic.

  10. Love all your organization!! It feels good to have everything in its place. I am good at doing that but it is harder for me to maintain. I have a favorite furniture consignment store that I like here in Town. I always check them out first!

    1. Great idea Arlene! I don't have any consignment shops for furniture near me except for Goodwill and things fly out of there as soon as they come in the door so you have to get really lucky!!! HA! It definitely does feel good to have everything in it's place and know exactly where everything lives in your home! Have a great week!

  15. I grew up in a family that lived with and loved hand-me-downs and antiques. My grandfather was an "American Picker" before that had a name. His philosophy, which has passed down through the generations was "Always take anything anyone gives you, even if it's a piece of junk, because they'll remember you the next time they're getting rid of something and it might be something good." It worked for him. His and Nana's home was filled with antiques and my mom, my aunts, and I all have some of them plus others he gave us. I grew up going to auctions, flea markets, and yard sales. It's in my blood!

    1. I agree Stacy!!! That is wonderful that your Father taught you the value of keeping things and cherishing gifts! I cherish my grandmothers clocks!!! I have always wanted a huge old home filled with antiques but I cannot afford that with just me - also it would be an upkeep nightmare!! I can hardly vacuum my condo! HA HA! Have a wonderful week Stacy!

  17. I've been a big fan of organisation since I first left home to live in my own space. It sure did help a LOT later when I had four kids and a husband around the place.
I've dropped in via Highriser Andrew's blog.

    1. Absolutely agree with that!!!! It is important with children! When I visit my sister I don't know how she finds anything in her huge house but she knows exactly where kids socks are!!!! Amazing and impressive!!!! So happy you found me! I can't wait to learn more about you! Have a wonderful week!

  18. Yes, I have gotten on the reorganization bandwagon, Ann, and am constantly looking to re-purpose something already in our apt or give it away if it's no longer useful. We have bookcases and other pieces of furniture that have moved with us from NJ to VA and now to NH. If it ain't broke and we can still use it, it has come with us!

    1. Great way to do your part in re-purposing Beatrice!!! I agree - it is hard to replace things that are still working and functional! Which is why it has taken so long to get new furniture! HA! I hope you love NH - I am very jealous!! Have a wonderful week and I look forward to learning more about you!

  20. I love that tall dresser with the jewelry drawers! Beautiful. I also love white. And yes, it makes me think clean!
I have several things from family members too. And I cherish them. Somehow I ended up with the German Family Bible from my grandfather's family, who came here in 1907 and the clock as well. Both items came with the family through Ellis Island. So special. Found you via Andrew.

    1. So happy you found me Maribeth!!! Thanks for the compliments - it may not be clean but the white "feels" clean! That helps - haha!!! What a wonderful thing to have the Bible - what a cherished piece of family history - think of all the hands that held that! WOW! Can't wait to get to know you better! Hugs! Have a great week!

  21. that is a really beautiful cabinet and wow on all the ways its helps organize. I don't have things to be organized, if I don't use it I lose it. we had a white elephant sale at our TOPS meeting to raise funds. I did not have anything to take because I get rid of everything, plus I don't wear jewelry so don't have to worry about that. I have 1 watch, 4 rings, about 10 pairs of earings and that is it. good job on all your organization.

  22. I am so encouraged to start work in the bedrooms now... Love your organizing tips.. We've been working hard in the basement... getting rid of stuff we inherited from several family members that just was swallowing us alive!!! I particularly loved how to dealt with the scarves.. I have a scarf prob. I prob need to weed out about half of them because truly Inever wear them.. What is wrong with me.. Im so afraid I tend to be a hoarder!!

    1. I also have a scarf problem!!!! Previously I had them on hangers and they took up half of my closet!!! I love the scarf box - I can see everything now just by pulling the basket out! Also, they are not my ideas - I am borrowing from all of you bloggers with fabulous ideas!!!! I also tend to be a hoarder but it feels so good to let go - I watch a few episodes of Hoarder every Sunday and I get motivated after that!!!! HA HA! Have a great week!

  23. I have been trying to get this house organized, but something always comes along to knock me off course.

I am thankful that David survived his recent stroke (Feb. 19) and am grateful that Heavenly Father WILL fully restore him. Thank you, Jesus!

I am thankful that Heavenly Father gave us safe travels to and from the hospital 30 or so miles away in a car that is having serious transmission problems.

I am thankful for these thankful posts that cause me to pause and remember how very blessed I am.

Thank you for your great post. Have a blessed weekend. :)

    1. Thank you Suz!!! I am also very grateful that David survived and I will send nightly prayers for healing! I had a friend that recently had a double stroke and he was recovering and then he just gave up trying...so very sad to watch! Good luck on the car situation...it is terrible you have those worries on top of caring for David but you are right! There are so many blessings and we need to be thankful for all of them! Hugs and prayers!
