So again this year I made my hardtack to pass out with my gifts. It reminds me so much of when I was a kid because my mother used to make it every year. I use the strong mint flavors from Lorann Oils and they work great!
Here is the recipe if you want to try it! It really is easy once you get the hang of the timing.
Also, this year I added the use of molds which made everything SO SIMPLE it is crazy!!!
Here is the recipe...RECIPE
Here is step one...boil the water, sugar and corn syrup...
These molds were amazing!!!! They helped so very much!!! A double batch filed all six molds...
And after it cooled, it is so easy to break it up with the molds...here is cinnamon!
Little closer view!
And here is the four double batches! I made a double batch of four different flavors this year (Cinnamon=red, Clove=blue, Wintergreen=green and Anise=yellow).
I put it in little Tupperware containers to give to family and friends.
I think I love hard tack because nothing says Christmas to me more than hard tack!
Do you like hard tack candy? Have you ever tried to make it? Do you make any special candy or cookies over the holidays?
Thanks for stopping by! I am a Pittsburgh girl - born and raised! I blog about my city, travel, weight loss, recovery, family, and life in general! I love the Steelers, coffee and my cats! I took a crappy job shutdown and turned it into a positive mid-life pivot - I am now attending nursing school - set to graduate in December 2022!!! Please make sure to comment and let me know you were here...I love making new friends!

Way too complicated for my poor cooking skills ...
ReplyDeleteActually really easy - only important part is making sure the candy is boiled until 300 degrees...other than that ...so simple! Promise! Have a great week! HUGS
DeleteThanks for sharing the recipe. I may make it sometime to give away, but as for me...not a fan of the flavors. It's so pretty, though. I always think it looks like bits of broken stained glass.
ReplyDeleteYes it is always so pretty in the gift containers Stacy. I love it - I wish I did not! HA HA! Have a great week!
DeleteNot sure what Hardtack is! Is it like hard candy? Doesn't it get sticky in your containers? It does look pretty in the small containers!
ReplyDeleteIt is like hard candy with very strong flavors. A family favorite! Have a great week!
DeleteI've never even heard of it!! But pretty sure it would pull out one of my 8 crowns :) LOL ... hard candy terrifies me. Thats so cool you make it though.
ReplyDeleteYes Rebecca Jo you definitely have to suck and not chew - but I forget every time - HA HA!!! Have a great week!
DeleteI've never made hard candy...but I bet it tastes way better than anything you can buy at a store! Yours looks beautiful. Did you dust the pieces with sugar to keep them from sticking together?
ReplyDeleteThank you Kathy! Yes, after you break the candy into pieces you put it in powdered sugar to keep it from sticking together. Have a great week - hugs!
DeleteI have never had hardtack candy. It sure looks beautiful though. Like Stacy said, it looks like broken stained glass.
ReplyDeleteWow Patti! I did not realize that so many people had never had this - it is common for our family so I just assumed everyone has had it. HUGS - have a great week!
DeleteI have never made nor tasted it, but it certainly makes a beautiful holiday gift.
ReplyDeleteYes Tabor! I love homemade gifts too! HUGS - have a fantastic week!
DeleteNever had it but am intrigued.
ReplyDeleteIt is delish Linda!!!! So yummy! Have a great week!
DeleteNicely done!
ReplyDeleteThe only time I tried to make hard candy was in 7th grade home ec. class. Pretty much a fail :P
LOL Abby! It is sadly very easy - the trick is making sure the sugar and water gets to 300 before you take it off the heat. Have a great Abby! Missed you! HUGS
DeleteMy husband used to love this stuff and we made it once but we just poured it out in a sheet pan. The molds would be great. Your dishes of it look so festive with all the different colors
ReplyDeleteYes Ann - I used to pour it onto a pan sheet and it is so hard to break it all up - the molds made it sooooo super easy!!!! I wish I had these years ago!!! It ends up really pretty too! Have a great week!
DeleteI think dentists would approve very much of your hard tack, hehe. Suck, don't bite.
ReplyDeleteExactly!!! Dentists DO NOT like my candy at all! HA HA!
DeleteI have never tried to make it but my dad ALWAYS got that hard ribbon candy at Christmas time. That brings back memories for me! Your candy looks delicious and I would love the Anise!!
ReplyDeleteRemind me and next year Terri I can ship you some for a special treat! Sorry - I am out this year! Have a great week!
DeleteYum
ReplyDeleteIt is Rue - and it brings back good memories of my Mom!!!
DeleteWow, that's awesome. You've been busy. When you said hardtack I was thinking of something my husband has made which cowboys would travel with. https://www.primalsurvivor.net/how-to-make-hardtack/ I've never made that candy. I do have several cookies I like to bake but not doing the this year since we just don't need all the leftovers. My son, daughter in law and James will be over. They just won't eat many sweets.
ReplyDeleteThat is an interesting recipe Debbie! I just went and checked it out! Very cool! Only my hardtack is straight sugar so nothing nutritional at all! HA HA! Have a great week!
DeleteMerry Christmas Ann. Hope it’s fantastic.
