The Clarks at the Meadows

Happy Monday ya'll!!!!

I hope everyone had a great weekend!!!!

We had very weird weather this weekend and I chose to stay home and out of the cold most of the time. It was a weekend spent hunkered under a blanket and surrounded by my cats with the exception of mornings at Barre class and one night out.

The Clarks (A very popular local Pittsburgh band) was playing at the opening night for the new lounge at the Meadows Racetrack and Casino.

I am a very addictive person so I normally steer clear of the casino as much as possible however, I really wanted to hear the band so off I went to the Meadows around 8:30 after my home group meeting on Friday night.

The awesome part of this story is that I decided I would spend $40 since there was no fee to see the band and I don't drink alcohol. I Put the $40 in a machine and bet each 50 cents with each push. I guess I did that about 10 times with little monetary gains or nothing each spin.  I was almost down ten dollars within 2 minutes so I just sat there and listened to the band a little and then cashed out and moved to a new machine. I put the money ticket in the machine and this happened with the VERY FIRST bet of 50 cents...

It was pretty awesome!! After I realized how much it was going to be I thought of you guys and started taping it! HA! I won $169.35 with a 50 cent bet!! So exciting and then I thought..."Wow! It must be my lucky night so I better keep playing and I will win a ton!!!!!"

Well, that did not happen and that is the Not So Awesome part of the story.

I played a while and just kept losing...then I promised myself that I would only lose until I was down to $40 so I break even for the night! Then when I was down to $40 I figured that I would keep trying to win again since I was planning on spending that anyway and ....

JUST LIKE THAT....

My winnings were gone (the whole $169.35) as was my $40 initial investment! I was so sad :-(

I just reminds me of why I should not gamble! I have a horribly addictive personality and I could feel the excitement when I was there...I don't know how to quit when I am ahead! UGH!

Oh well, easy come, easy go, right?

I went home sad and defeated thinking I should have quit while I was ahead! The rest of the weekend was spent snuggling my cats and doing barre! It was nice to stay in and get little stuff done too though like water change for the fish tank and sewing a tear in my couch.

That's it for my good fortune story for the week...now I am off to hear about your weekends!!!

Do you guys ever gamble or play the lottery? Why? Have you ever won big? What was your weekend like? How was your weather?

  1. I used to enjoy gambling way back in the day, but don't care about it one bit now. It's been years and I'm good with that.

Have a fabulous day and week. ♥

  2. I'm too cheap to play the lottery and when we do go to the casino we only spend $20 or so everytime we go down lol.

  4. The only way to win is to stop while you are ahead. But as long as you didn’t go beyond the initial $40 you’re fine.

    1. I know..I really should have! I was thinking that the WHOLE TIME too but I just wanted to keep playing - hence the addiction! HA! Oh well, I guess it is good to know our weaknesses! Have a great day!

  5. If we had back all the money we wasted on lottery tickets, we would have a nice little nest egg. I think the most we ever won was around $100. We don't do casinos often. It has actually been five years and we never win. We DO stick to our limit and stop when it is gone. I rarely win anything so my expectations are low going into any 'contest'. LOL Snuggling with your cats sounds like a perfect way to end the weekend!

    1. I need to jump on the bandwagon with you Terri! I am done for now...not fun to lose especially when my job is ending soon! UGH! Oh well, live and learn! Have a great day - I hope you got your surgery scheduled without a hitch!

  6. We woke up to a dusting of snow on Saturday and it was gone by mid-afternoon. Other than scratch tickets (and I haven't done those in years), I haven't gambled.

    1. My brother in law loves scratch tickets - and his family too! His mother buys then for her grand kids!!! It is super cute to watch them get excited to win $20! I have not bought them in a while - I NEVER win on those! Have a great day Robin - HUGS!

  7. The few times that I have been to a casino I had a limit of $40 and I never went home with any of it. I have the worst luck ever.

  8. We don't like to gamble so whenever we've been in a casino (which is extremely rare) our max is $10. We've lost it all in seconds. And yes, I have an addictive personality too. This is why I don't watch Korean dramas like the rest of the population in Hawaii. My sister-in-law tells me she always wins at Vegas. Always. Could this be true? I have my doubts.

    1. I would definitely have my doubts too! It is kind of sad but you see people looking very desperate there and wonder if they have lost everything gambling? Sad thing that any kind of addiction is. I am steering clear now too! Sad that I could not quit while I was ahead! Have a great day!

  9. I do not gamble and have little interest. They make their money on people like you who hope for just one good win...and then another.

  10. While I too have an addictive personality, for some reason it doesn't happen with gambling.

  11. I used to work in a gaming room. And yup. Most times people would win then walk out with nothing. Not a problem if it’s once in a while. But we had some that came in every night and loose hundreds. We couldn’t understand it But there you go I don’t have it to lose so I don’t play

    1. That is so super sad Angeld - there is no doubt it is an addiction! I know that night..I kept thinking I had to keep playing to win back my winnings but it was all downhill from there! I see where it could be a huge issue for someone!

  12. I haven't been to the casino in years, but when I used to go I would set aside $40. If I won, great. If I didn't, I'd spent about what a nice night out on the town would be.

    1. That is exactly what I thought Kathy! All in all, it was great entertainment and I loved the band and the rush of winning....just wish I had quit before the rush of losing ended the night! HA!!! Have a great day - HUGS!

  13. The way I look at it, is that you were entertained, got to listen to a cool band and it cost you $40. I also divide what I spent by the time I was there to get the value (I know I am such a nerd).

I have family in Vegas but I don't really do the slot machines. If I am going to gamble, I do the betting on the horses but I really don't do that much.

    1. That is exactly how I figured it in my head Patrick! I got a lot of entertainment for that $40. I just wish I had quit and went home wit that $169...HA!!! I have never been to Vegas but I could also foresee it being a huge problem for me!!! LOL! I would probably gamble myself homeless!!! Have a great day!

  14. We go to the casino (usually Erie) once in a while, but we give ourselves a small allowance. We set it small enough we don't care if we lose it and when it's gone or when we get tired of playing, we quit. I did win a little bit on the cruise, but not enough to get terribly excited about. We always shake our heads over friends of ours that always brag about winning money on the slots, but they never mention they might spend $300 to "win" $100. lol

    1. That is exactly my thought Stacy!! I saw people next to me betting $3.50 a spin on the same kind of machine....each spin!!!! Crazy!! I do not think she hit at all while I was there! I can not imagine how much money she put into that thing! WOWSA!!! I thought 50 cents was a lot!!!! She was not happy when I hit on my first push either! HA! You are a smart woman Stacy! I work way too hard for my money! Have a great day!

  15. Oh boy. I'd have done what you did, including the remorse. Now days if I go to a casino I play the penny slots. You can play forever for 5 bucks. When that is gone, which hasn't happened yet, I go find who ever I came with and watch them lose.

    1. LOL! Great idea but I did do the penny slot! It seems every game says 1 penny but the minimum bet is different...the lowest bet on the ones I was playing was 50 cents. I guess I need to move around and find the TRUE penny ones?? My five bucks was gone in under a minute! Glad I am not alone...HA HA! Have a great day!

  16. I love to gamble, but I am not allowed to for my job which is probably for the best. I do miss Blackjack though. Sucks that you lost all your winnings, but at least you got the experience of it.

  18. OH NO!!!! LOL... oh well, you went in with intentions of loosing $40 so if you had a good time, that's all that matters.
My hubby is good about going to the casino & if he gets up, he leaves. He'll drive an hour to get there & if he's up a few hundred in the first 5 minutes, he leaves. LOL - I appreciate that about him

  20. I haven't been in awhile. Was actually thinking of going to a casino next week. I do enjoy playing the machines. I believe the most I've ever won was $900. Breaking even is always a good thing.
