Weekend Miscellaneous

Happy Monday everyone! The beginning of another week..yay! I am blessed to have woken up to 50 degrees in Pittsburgh! Kinda crazy but also kinda wonderful!!!!

This past weekend I had nothing planned and it was nice to chill at home most of the weekend. My Stelara shot came so I gave myself my medicine. For those that do not know; I have psoriatic arthritis. It causes my joints to ache a lot and without my meds, I am covered with scaly red patches all over my body. This medicine allows my skin to be clear so I no longer look like a leper...for real...the meds have saved my life! It is so tough going through life watching people cower away from you like you are contagious. Thank you big pharma for this win!

I got a little stir crazy over the weekend with no plans so I decided to make my own. So many of you commented on my beach posts and asked why I do not go to Lake Erie since I live in Pittsburgh. So, I thought, I don't know why but I thought it was time to check it out!

So I put it in Waze (I use Waze to get EVERYWHERE) and found out that it is over two hours from my home. So, off I went. I figured I could find lake glass since it was cold and there would be no one else there.

I arrived and made my way to the Presque Isle State Park. I found the first beach and parked. I started walking up and down....nothing except rocks and plastic trash. I used my plastic bag that I wad going to collect glass in to collect trash! It filled quickly...it was actually pretty sad...

I moved to another beach further down and the same thing happened. I guess it is true what they say about balloon releases being bad for the environment...I can not tell you how many of these old, popped Mylar balloons I picked up!

So, I walked all the beaches down the peninsula and did not find a single piece of lake glass but I collected a lot of trash. Maybe I did not go to the right place to find glass but it was definitely disappointing.  Very beautiful but apparently not an area where people appreciate nature...UGH to people!

Another shot of beautiful nature...

Twice over the weekend I was stuck in stopped traffic for accidents. The first day....police stopped traffic both directions on a major route because someone was texting and crashed into the car in front of them and the then someone rubbernecking that accident crashed into the car in front of them. We were stuck for about 30 minutes not moving AT ALL!!

Then the next day this happened...There was another accident and the police again stopped all traffic to clear it! I can not stress it enough...please don't text and drive! I see people doing it everywhere here and it is a disaster waiting to happen. I now zip my phone in my purse so I cant see it when I am driving. If i need to make a call I don't start the car until the call is on Bluetooth in the car. It is so senseless!!!

My neighbors have been feeding a colony of strays that live in the woods near our condo. They took me yesterday to see them...I am in love! There are four super cute kittens, probable about 6 months old. I contacted a friend that does catch, neuter and release and we are hoping to get them spayed and neutered so they don't create more. Maybe they can actually be homed - they are super cute!

Lastly, I got free play for the Meadows again this weekend. I was not going to go use it but my home group meeting was cancelled Friday night and I was super bored so I decided to try my will power. I promised myself that I would use the free play and then leave no matter how fast it was...I even left my wallet and debit card at home just to be sure! HA! Guess what happened....

In the end I won $376.19 with a $1.00 bet!!! Within five minutes of getting to the casino too. So that was it, I took the money and ran like all of you told me to do. The entertainment value was pretty low but I was super happy to leave with that money!!! I used up the last of the free play and cashed the money out!!! YAY!!!

Thanks for the recommendations! I felt good sticking to my guns and leaving up $350. I hope my luck holds out today - my barre studio had it's grand opening and I am hoping to win one of the giveaway baskets. I think they are picking tickets today - fingers crossed?!?!?!

I never planned on watching the Superbowl since my Steelers are not in it. I was, however, rooting for the Kansas City Chiefs to win! I worked in Kansas City for about three months last year and all the employees I worked with are super excited that the Chiefs made it to the end!!!  So I have to root for them also!!!

As far as the game goes, I only watched the halftime show and I loved it!
Jlo is 50 and Shakira is 40...man they can shake for their age!!!! I was seriously impressed - plus I loved all the music! If I looked like them; I would let it all hang out! HA HA!

I hope everyone has a happy and LUCKY week!! HUGS!!!

Today I am joining in with The Flynnigans for ...

My monthly goals are very simple...

drink my water everyday
Exercise everyday (at least a walk if not doing Pure Barre)
Lose weight and build muscle!!!
I am very focused (for the first time in a long time) on my weight less goals and what is necessary to get me to the end!

Here is my mantra...everyday ….all day!!!!

Do you like Chinese auctions? How about bingo? I LOVE bingo and have not been in forever! How was your weekend? Did you watch the big game? If so, any good commercials?

  2. So sad that people just throw their garbage anywhere. Thank you for picking it up. That was a good thing.

Way to go on the win. Leaving is the key. You have the money. So many just put it all back in.

Bingo is okay. Don't play it much.

We enjoy our boat this weekend. It was a very nice weekend.

Didn't watch the game, but I'm happy for the Chiefs to win after 50 years.

Have a fabulous day and week. ♥

    1. I agree on the Chiefs - I had no idea it has been 50 years...no wonder they are all so excited - thank for that information Sandee!!! Awesome! I put it all back in the last time and felt horrible!!!! This was awesome!!! Actually just physically took it to the bank! I wish people respected nature...so sad to me! Have a great day Sandee!!!

  3. We have a tremendous plastic waste problem in Hawaii. There are some beaches that are covered in bits of plastic that have washed in from the ocean. I really admire your sense of adventure.

I believe most people in Hawaii rooted for San Francisco but I also know my son in Maryland was for Kansas City. I thought Shakira and JLo were absolutely amazing. Wow!

    1. Right there with you on the WOW! LOL! I went to Kauai a couple years ago and every excursion we went on around the beach...the guides had us each take a few pieces of trash away with us. I thought it was a great way to spread awareness...makes a difference if everyone does it for sure! So, basically that's where I got the idea. I only wish everyone did it...the world would be a much brighter and cleaner place! Have a fantastic week Kay! HUGS

    1. Not so sure...My parents live at a lake and it is only 1 1/2 hours away so I will probably still opt to go see family in a little lake when it is warm but it is nice to see and know it is an option. Have a great day Rebecca Jo!

  5. That was sickening about the beach. What is wrong with people? Thanks for doing what you could to help.
Those two ladies at half time sure make middle age look easy.
I had no team in the fight so I was happy with who ever won. Was glad though that the Chiefs don't have to wait 51 years. Fifty was enough.

    1. I was happy they won too - even more so when I heard they waited 50 years!! I was blown away with half time - they really looked amazing right!??! I heard people were upset about their lack of clothes but they had on more than the cheerleaders did! HA! Have a great week - HUGS!

    1. Thank Patti! It was hard to leave but I kept thinking about the last time I stayed and lost it all! Also, it ended up paying for a new battery and installation in my car! HA HA! Thanks to all of you for your advice!!! I get to try again with more free play next Friday - fingers crossed! Have a great day!

  7. I like that you just set off to explore. Sad about the plastic. I went to Svalbard and they get plastic washed up on their beaches from the rest of the world- it's a tiny outpost near the north pole, so there is really no escaping it. We humans are dreadful. It has however made me mindful of my impact and determined to do better.

    1. I am right there with you Lydia!! It was such a bummer to see all that trash! I am using reusable cloths to clean, metal straws (no matter how much it hurts when I bang them into my teeth) and reusable water bottles for a start!! So sad!

  8. Woohooo good job on the win! I just watched the half time show on You Tube so I would know what everyone was talking about. People crack me up when they complain it's to raunchy for the kids. I'm like didn't you live through Madonna and Michael Jackson?

    1. Not only that Julie...they had on WAY more clothes than the cheerleaders were wearing!!! A girl, Skylar, that taught barre class in Zona Rosa is a KC cheerleader and he outfit was WAY littler than the halftime performers!!! LOL! I thought they looked amazing - I wish that we my 50!!! LOL!! Someday!!!! Maybe that is my inspiration to look like that by 60!! Master goals! Have a great day Julie! HUGS

  9. Congrats on the win! And on walking away! I am a sucker for basket bashes, bingo, gun bashes, purse bashes...any bash at all! LOL I just don't have a lot of luck at them. I usually just know I'm going to be giving the organization a healthy donation.

    1. I am right there with you Stacy! I love any giveaways and I normally never win anything!!! I am amazed at my luck at the casino!!! I am also loving the free play...when that weekend free play is over; I may return to bingo! HA! Sad thing is...my attention span is very short so normally I have bingo and don't even notice it until someone else yells bingo and I realize that I have had it for four turns!!! HA HA! Have a great day!

  10. Congratulations on the big win! I am glad you left with your winnings! Good luck winning a basket at the barre studio grand opening too! Keep us posted. I am sorry to say that I thought the halftime show was vulgar and nearly x-rated. Wholesome family entertainment doesn't exist anymore. Kids should not have been exposed to that display. Just my opinion... I am old.

    1. LOL Terri - You are not old and I respect your opinion. I just think if you compare the outfits they wore with the cheerleaders; they actually wore more clothes than the cheerleaders. Their moves may have been a little raunchier though. LOL. I am glad I do not have a figure like that because I would definitely be showing it off and making people mad too! HeeHee! Sadly I did not win a basket for the barre giveaways so the losing streak is back! HA! Have a great week Terri! HUGS

I did notice that it is so much colder, windier and you get much more snow than use in Pittsburgh...that I do not envy!! Have a great week Ann! HUGS

  13. Well, thanks for doing your bit for the environment and how good to have a casino win, a rare thing for me. Also a thanks for contacting someone about the kittens. It always seemed so nice to release balloons into the sky, never thinking about what would happen to them. We now know and it should be stopped.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes it definitely should be stopped - apparently wildlife tries to eat them and choke on them a lot also...so sad! I will do a whole post on how everything turns out for the kittens. I am picking up tuna and sardines today and it looks like we will try to trap them on Thursday this week....spaying/neutering will be Friday hopefully. If they are not feral then hopefully we can find them homes! Have a great day Andrew!!

  14. It sounded like you had a good weekend. Thank you for picking up the garbage along the beach areas. Good for you on your casino winnings and then getting the heck out of there. Nope, we didn't watch the big game. I like bingo, but haven't played in years. I used to play it with my students all the time with boards I created. I don't have a clue to what a Chinese auction is. Have a good week!

    1. LOL Robin! A chinese auction (that is what we call them in PA) is when you buy tickets for 20 for $10. The there are gift baskets you can put your ticket in for a change to win them. At the end they mix up the tickets and select one winner for the people that put their tickets in. Does that make sense? It is hard for me to explain it well. I hope you have a great week Robin! HUGS
